Questions About Counselling in Bath
What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals and any questions or concerns you have. It’s also a chance for you to make sure you feel comfortable working with me.
How do I know if we’ll be a good fit?
The short answer is, you’ll get a feel. Therapy works best when you feel you can be yourself with your therapist. If, after a few sessions, you sense that we’re not quite the right match, that’s completely fine, your wellbeing always comes first.
How often do I come to therapy and how long does it take?
I offer sessions of 50 minutes. Weekly sessions are usual, building momentum and trust. The length of therapy varies for each person. Some clients benefit from just a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. Together we’ll discuss what feels right and review progress along the way.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share stays between us, with a few legal exceptions (such as if someone is at risk of harm). We’ll run though these exceptions during your first session.
How will I know if therapy is working?
Progress looks different for everyone. Sometimes the shifts are obvious, at other times, they’re less so; reacting differently to something that used to derail you or feeling less stuck. Change doesn’t always look dramatic but, over time, you’ll notice it and we’ll review regularly to check what’s working, any challenges and whether your goals are evolving.
Is online therapy effective?
It can feel a little challenging at first but most people settle in quickly. Many even find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own space and secure online sessions can be as effective as those taking place in-person for many issues.
Is it unusual that I feel nervous even reading this page?
Not at all. Looking for support is a big step, even if it feels like a small one. If you decide to get in touch, there is no need to come prepared. A simple “I’m thinking about starting therapy” is more than enough to begin.
